The Spirits descended upon us from from Swaziland. The all-female group managed to leave the Kingdom after One Circle, a local company, came to their financial rescue by donating an amount of E5 000 to them for their travel allowance. The group had vowed to hitch-hike to Grahamstown if they did not get any financial assistance. Now that’s dedication for you.

These young women perform with indigenous instruments, their voices and Spirit. Masauko Chipembere of Blk Sonshine had this to say about them “These sisters areĀ  the continuation of Miriam Makeba’s vibe on the sangoma album, but the Swazi version. There is something ancient and ancestral, and something urban and homegrown going down.” He’s a fan.

It’s hard to put into words why their music is so moving. GO AND WATCH THEIR SHOW!! They are only here until the end of the weekend. My hope is that these ultra talented, ultra stylish young women go far…I’m sure it’s not the last we will hear from them.
